A Message From Penny Johnson, Director Of Professional Learning

The 2017-18 year was a productive year in the Professional Learning Department. As Pennsylvania makes a very deliberate move towards career readiness in 2018, the BLaST IU 17 region has made a commitment to networking and collaborating with partners in higher education, community agencies, and business and industry. With the seed funding of the First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania, we launched The Future Ready Series in April with career and college readiness thought-leader, Dr. Kevin Fleming. Follow-up events will continue throughout the summer and fall of 2018. The grant funding also allowed us to expand the Lending Library, putting additional STEM tools in the hands of our programs and the districts.

Recognizing the importance of ensuring students within our IU Program are Future Ready, teacher representatives from across the IU programs met to review ELA and Math curriculum alignment within our programs. Many programs received an introduction to the Lending Library and suggestions for extending STEM exposure for our students. Student access to personalized course content has been extended through additional course offerings available through eQUIP.

The Curriculum and TaC teams wish you a happy summer and look forward to working with you next year to help our students succeed in their career paths.
