04/07/2021The Pennsylvania Institute for Instructional Coaching (PIIC) is a state-wide system of support that enhances the work of school-based instructional coaches. School-based instructional coaches provide professional development for teachers and school leaders focused on refining classroom practices, increasing student engagement, and improving student achievement. Sessions will be designed around PIICs four elements of coaching and include strategies for one-on-one and small group coaching, analyzing data, using evidenced-based literacy/instructional strategies, and strategies to promote reflective practices. Because these sessions focus on the process of coaching, it is applicable to all curriculum models including Learning-Focused Schools, Reading Apprenticeship, and Standards Aligned System. The content of these sessions is applicable to PreK-12 teacher leaders, instructional coaches, department chairs, curriculum coordinators, and principals. Identified PIIC coaches are required to attend all sessions throughout the year while non-PIIC participants are encouraged but not required to attend all sessions throughout the year.

04/07/2021Engineering by Design (EbD) is built on the belief that the ingenuity of children is untapped, unrealized potential that, when properly motivated, will lead to the next generation of technologists, innovators, designers, and engineers. Join this virtual training to learn how to integrate a curriculum in your content area to have your students learning concepts and principles in an authentic problem-/project-based environment. This curriculum uses all four STEM content areas, as well as English Language Arts, to help students understand the complexities of tomorrow.

04/08/2021You and your staff will learn a range of strategies that can be used every day. Attendees will learn how to set high expectations while being supportive. Opportunities be provided to practice how to provide direct feedback and how to ask questions that foster accountability. The most effective methods to resolve common conflicts will be presented. We devote the second day entirely to teaching attendees to facilitate restorative circles. Circles are an essential process for building social capital, resolving social problems and responding when harm occurs. Circles create a positive learning environment. Attendees will learn by participating in circles with other attendees and taking turns learning how to facilitate a circle. By the end of the day, staff will be prepared to return to their setting and run their first circle! This event is held on the second and fourth Thursday from February 11, 2021 through May27, 2021. Registration open until 2/4/2021.

Autism Connection Community 2021
All day
04/19/2021Do you currently work with students diagnosed with Autism? Are you looking for strategies to promote learning and areas of positive growth? Are you looking to build a connection with other teachers and educators? Check-in with the BLaST Intermediate Unit 17 for my ‘Autism Connection Community.’ Every month, I will share a specific skill area that educators should practice with themselves and their students to develop a better understanding and increase a positive classroom culture and environment. These skills are recyclable and should be used throughout the school year. The instruction and strategies may vary from grade to grade and depending on each student since “no two students are the same.” The skills lab will run asynchronously and virtually so that educators can dive in when ready. Content will drop each month and reflection exercises will be embedded throughout each skill section. There will be touch points along the way with Jim Rinehimer, who will help bridge these skills into practice.
Content drops: March 22, April 19 & May 10
Deadline to register is May 10, 2021
