AM: Ready to take the dive into Computer Science? This session will give you an overview of Computer Science in our PA and explain Computer Science beyond the coding. You will leave with a toolbox of activities to do you in your classroom, no matter the content, to enhance the computer science experience for your students. PM: A Self-Organized Learning Environment, or SOLE, can exist anywhere there is a computer, internet connection, and students who are ready to learn. Within a SOLE, students are given the freedom to learn collaboratively using the internet. SOLE sessions are characterized by discovery, sharing, spontaneity and limited teacher intervention. Every SOLE session activates the learners’ creativity, requires critical thinking, and refines communication skills. You will get access to free tools to implement SOLE in your classroom and find out how to earn free CEUs.
8:30 am: CS First ~ ZOOM
8:30 am - 3:30 pm
CS First is Google's free, introductory computer science program for grades 4-8 (ages 9-14). This video-based curriculum teaches students foundational CS, problem-solving and collaboration skills through themes related to students’ interests. In this hands-on professional development workshop, teachers will learn how to use CS First, Google’s free ready-to-teach introductory computer science (CS) curriculum for elementary and middle school students. During the three-hour workshop, teachers will: • Review the CS First curriculum • Test drive a CS First class from a student and teacher perspective • Develop a plan of action for teaching CS First in their classrooms Most importantly, teachers will join the growing community of CS First educators from around the world.
