Question, Persuade, Refer for Suicide Prevention Train the Trainer Training
Free QPR Train-the-Trainer, sponsored by the Garrett Lee Smith Youth Suicide Prevention Initiative of the Department of Human Services, Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, Bureau of Children’s Behavioral Health.
Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) is a 1-2 hour interactive, best practices and evidence-based training to help guide a person on how to ask the suicide question, persuade the person to get help, and then him/her to appropriate professionals. QPR is an educational program designed to teach lay and professional "gatekeepers" the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to respond. This training can be used with educators (to help meet Act 71 requirements), parents, and students.
Who Should Attend:
- Individuals selected to be trained as trainers MUST be either in an administrative/leadership function and/or have a mental health background (e.g., school counselor, school psychologist, clinician/therapist) AND have public speaking skills and comfort with leading trainings
- Each district may identify up to 2 staff members to attend this training.
- The train-the-trainer event consists of one full day (8 hours) of training, and free QPR materials (books, binder, handouts, slide set, 25 QPR booklets for trainees). There is no cost for the training.
