Superintendent of Schools, Wellsboro Area School District

Summary

The Board of School Directors of the Wellsboro Area School District (WASD) is now accepting applications for the position of Superintendent of Schools. The new Superintendent will lead the district in its mission to work in partnership with students, families, and the community to assure that every student acquires the knowledge, skills, and core values necessary to realize his/her fullest potential.

The Wellsboro Area School District

The district includes four schools: Charlotte Lappla Elementary (K-1), Don Gill Elementary School (Gr. 2-4), Rock L. Butler Middle School (Gr. 5-8), and Wellsboro High School (Gr. 9-12). The total staff of approximately 200 supports an array of student opportunities through academics, arts, athletics, and various co-curricular activities. With an annual budget of approximately $25.6 million, the Wellsboro Area School District encourages and strengthens their students through their vision of “A community of life-long learners that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and values required for productive citizenship.”

The Community:

The Wellsboro Area School District encompasses 332.5 square miles of rural, suburban landscape. Wellsboro is a charming borough located in Tioga County with a population of approximately 12,000 people residing within the Wellsboro School District boundaries. The borough is situated about 12 miles east of the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon, a stunning natural attraction. This proximity to natural beauty makes Wellsboro a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Wellsboro boasts a vibrant community with a variety of local businesses, cultural events, and recreational activities.

  • Experience as a school or district administrator

Candidate Characteristics

The next superintendent will model clear, consistent, purposeful communication as a leader who actively listens for and effectively conveys information. This individual will possess an authentic, honest, and approachable demeanor while building connections among all district and community stakeholders.
  • Visionary: The Board of Directors seeks a superintendent with a clear and innovative approach to academics and learning. The next superintendent will honor the advances we have made towards our goals and create a focused, multi-year plan centered on student and staff success. This individual will passionately lead our efforts to improve achievement, offer world-class opportunities, and ensure student safety.
  • Community Focused: The Board of Directors seeks a superintendent who understands the rural context and of the district including the strengths and challenges of leading small, rural schools.  The next superintendent will be committed to maintaining strong community, family, and school partnerships. 

Compensation

A regionally competitive salary and benefits package will be offered to the successful candidate.
