Participants will explore the continuum of development for young writers, paying close attention to what constitutes an emergent, early, and fluent writer. Participants will examine their own students' writing to determine where their students are on the writing continuum and how to support their young writers towards proficiency of the PA Core Standards for Writing. Participants will learn how to use writing demonstrations, small group writing, and independent writing to create a comprehensive and differentiated approach to teaching writing. The following essential questions will guide this session: How do I determine where my writer's are on the writing continuum? How do I differentiate my writing instruction while moving all writers towards proficiency of the PA Core Standards? How do I utilize teacher demonstrations, small groups, and independent writing to create a comprehensive and differentiated approach to writing instruction? Please bring examples of your own student's writing (produced independently) along with the PA Core Standards for Writing from your grade level. To register for this event please visit www.elrnr.org. 8:30 am: PVAAS Teacher Specific Reporting: Professional Growth, Not Gotcha 8:30 am - 11:30 am 2400 Reach Road Williamsport, PA 17701 USA 570-323-8561 These half-day sessions will provide teachers with a review of the concept of growth as measured by PVAAS, and introduce the PVAAS teacher specific reports that are a direct result of the PVAAS Roster Verification process. Teachers will develop a foundational understanding as to how PVAAS measures growth for PVAAS teacher specific reporting. The session will include a complete review of the PVAAS teacher specific value-added report, as well as available diagnostic reporting at the teacher specific level. Teachers will have the opportunity to review their own PVAAS teacher specific reporting if they choose, or use a demo site if they prefer to review their reports privately. Teachers will have an opportunity to ask questions throughout the session. AUDIENCE: These sessions are designed for teachers who receive PVAAS teacher specific reporting. LEAs/districts sending teachers to the session are encouraged to include a district or school administrator with their group, as questions may arise regarding district/school practice or policy. MATERIALS NEEDED: Participants should bring a laptop or tablet, along with their PVAAS username, password, and PPID to access reporting. Alternately, participants may wish to bring a printed packet of their teacher specific reports. A demo site will be available to use during the training. FEE: There is a $25 fee for this event. This fee covers Act 48/registration fees. School districts will be invoiced upon completion. To register for this event please visit www.elrnr.org. | 11/12/2014 | 11/13/2014(1 event)8:30 am: Pennsylvania Institute for Instructional Coaching (PIIC) 8:30 am - 3:30 pm 2400 Reach Road Williamsport, PA 17701 USA 570-323-8561 The Pennsylvania Institute for Instructional Coaching (PIIC) is a state-wide system of support that enhances the work of school-based instructional coaches. School-based instructional coaches provide professional development for teachers and school leaders focused on refining classroom practices, increasing student engagement, and improving student achievement. Sessions will be designed around PIICs four elements of coaching and include strategies for one-on-one and small group coaching, analyzing data, using evidenced-based literacy/instructional strategies, and strategies to promote reflective practices. Because these sessions focus on the process of coaching, it is applicable to all curriculum models including Learning-Focused Schools, Reading Apprenticeship, and Standards Aligned System. The content of these sessions is applicable to PreK-12 teacher leaders, instructional coaches, department chairs, curriculum coordinators, and principals. Identified PIIC coaches are required to attend all sessions throughout the year while non-PIIC participants are encouraged but not required to attend all sessions throughout the year.
