06/14/2021Engineering by Design (EbD) is built on the belief that the ingenuity of children is untapped, unrealized potential that, when properly motivated, will lead to the next generation of technologists, innovators, designers, and engineers. Join this virtual training to learn how to integrate a curriculum in your content area to have your students learning concepts and principles in an authentic problem-/project-based environment. This curriculum uses all four STEM content areas, as well as English Language Arts, to help students understand the complexities of tomorrow.

06/15/2021CS First is Google's free, introductory computer science program for grades 4-8 (ages 9-14). This video-based curriculum teaches students foundational CS, problem-solving and collaboration skills through themes related to students’ interests. In this hands-on professional development workshop, teachers will learn how to use CS First, Google’s free ready-to-teach introductory computer science (CS) curriculum for elementary and middle school students. During the three-hour workshop, teachers will: • Review the CS First curriculum • Test drive a CS First class from a student and teacher perspective • Develop a plan of action for teaching CS First in their classrooms Most importantly, teachers will join the growing community of CS First educators from around the world.

06/15/2021Literacy Leadership Matters! Why? 1. School leadership directly impacts student achievement. 2. School leaders improve teaching and learning through promoting staff motivation, commitment, and a positive school culture. 3. School leaders play a critical role in supporting the literacy needs of all students, including those with or at risk for literacy-related disabilities, by designing and evaluating effective school-wide reading plans within multi-tiered systems of support. 4. School leaders actively support implementation of evidence based practices by providing access to high quality professional development and coaching/feedback opportunities. Join Erin Hamilton, from BLaST IU17, and State Lead Consultant for Literacy, Dr. Pam Kastner, as we take a deep dive into the research around foundational reading and what leadership needs to know to create successful teaching and learning teams. 06/17/2021School to Workforce Connections ~ A Cultural Shift Principal and Teacher Training The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) is pleased to announce the two hour ZOOM train-the-trainer boot camp (Act 48) designed to assist districts in meeting the statewide postsecondary attainment 2025 goal of 60 percent of Pennsylvanians with a postsecondary credential, certificate, or degree. Training will be provided by the Career Readiness State Training (CRST) team and will include the following: • Career Readiness and Workforce in PA (Career Education and Work Standards) • Industry-Based Learning • Stakeholder and Workforce Partnerships • Classroom and Workforce Alignment • Supporting Resources District training teams should include a minimum of three and no more than ten K-12 educators. The lead team member should be a building principal or assistant principal. With an emphasis on classroom alignment to workforce needs, team composition should include teachers from both elementary and secondary. The goal of this training is the development of an action plan that utilizes stakeholder and workforce partnerships to expand the classroom to career connections and build school wide momentum for career readiness. Team members will be poised to provide support in the implementation of the action plan. Our guest speaer is Chris Herman.
