The first day will include an overview of SWPBS, discussion of the Self Assessment Survey, establishing an Office Discipline Referral form, and establishing your building wide expectations. During day two, teams will complete a building matrix, begin to write lesson plans to teach their expectations, and establish an acknowledgement system. Day three, teams will finalize their acknowledgement plan and clarify office vs. classroom based consequences, and establish procedures for discouraging inappropriate behavior. Safety care training teaches incident minimization, de-escalation procedures, incident management (physical safety techniques) and post incident procedures. This is a physical training. Participants should dress appropriately in loose, comfortable clothing. Please refrain from wearing flip flops, sandals, clogs, or open toed shoes. Athletic shoes such as sneakers are most appropriate. The training will require participants to shuffle backward, twist and turn and transition from a standing to floor position. Participants should only register if they are willing and able to demonstrate the physical competencies. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the facilitator. This training is not open to parents, outside agencies, or districts not within IU 17. School districts served by BLaST IU 17 will not be invoiced. School-based instructional coaches provide professional development for teachers and school leaders focused on refining classroom practices, increasing student engagement, and improving student achievement. Sessions will be designed around PIICs four elements of coaching and include strategies for one-on-one and small group coaching, analyzing data, using evidenced-based literacy/instructional strategies, and strategies to promote reflective practices. Because these sessions focus on the process of coaching, it is applicable to all curriculum models including Learning-Focused Schools, Reading Apprenticeship, and Standards Aligned System. The content of these sessions is applicable to PreK-12 teacher leaders, instructional coaches, department chairs, curriculum coordinators, and principals. Each of the subsequent focus days will dig deeper into one of the nine components of the Pennsylvania MTSS framework. A continuum of tools and resources will be reviewed. Opportunities for team discussions and district networking will be embedded throughout the training series. Participants may choose to attend one or all of the training opportunities.

Since these humble beginnings, ALICE continues to be the leading active shooter response program in the US. The purpose of ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) training is to prepare individuals to handle the threat of an Active Shooter. ALICE teaches individuals to participate in their own survival, while leading others to safety. Though no one can guarantee success in this type of situation, this new set of skills will greatly increase the odds of survival should anyone face this form of disaster.
