05/08/2016 | 05/09/2016 | 05/10/2016(2 events)9:00 am: An Overview of Cortical Visual Impairment for Educators and Parents 9:00 am - 3:00 pm 2400 Reach Road Williamsport, PA 17701 USA 570-323-8561 This workshop will use teaching videos and discussion by Dr. Christine Roman-Lantzy, PhD and Kathy Quesenberry, OTR/L to explain what Cortical Visual Impairment is and how it affects the educational progress of a student. Along with the videos on CVI, classroom strategies and possible accommodations will be presented and discussed. Also, following each video, there will be a Q & A opportunity and handouts will be provided. This workshop is open to professionals working in the field of students with multiple disabilities and/or autism. It is also open to parents of students with CVI. Participants will be able to: Define Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI) List at least 4 characteristics of CVI Give 4 examples of classroom or educational accommodations for children with CVI. We look forward to continuing the great discussions started during last year's two in-service days. As a reminder, each member district should send at least one PoC to each day. Additional team members are always welcome. This year, each day will broken into two pathways. Each pathway includes several focus areas. Pathway 1: Strategy and Planning, Program Promotion, Educational Programming, Reports and Motivating Students, eLearning Advocacy. Pathway 2: Operations, Reporting, Communication Systems, GENIUS Essentials, Curriculum Components and Navigation. You may choose to stay within a single pathway throughout the day, or go between the two. Specific topics and times will be distributed before each day. ECHOES AND REFLECTIONS prepares educators to teach about the Holocaust in a way that stimulates engagement and critical thinking while providing opportunities for students to see the relevance of this complex history to their own lives. The ITC will meet every other month to provide the following: Support for PA Core Standards and STEM programs; Opportunities to network; Support for districts to develop their own professional development models (train-the-trainer); Support for teacher leaders as they infuse innovation and technology in creative and inventive ways into all curriculum. To register for this event, please visit www.elrnr.org. 8:30 am: Pennsylvania Institute for Instructional Coaching (PIIC) 8:30 am - 3:30 pm 2101 Loyalsock Drive Williamsport, PA 17701 USA 570-323-8561 The Pennsylvania Institute for Instructional Coaching (PIIC) is a state-wide system of support that enhances the work of school-based instructional coaches. School-based instructional coaches provide professional development for teachers and school leaders focused on refining classroom practices, increasing student engagement, and improving student achievement. Sessions will be designed around PIICs four elements of coaching and include strategies for one-on-one and small group coaching, analyzing data, using evidenced-based literacy/instructional strategies, and strategies to promote reflective practices. Because these sessions focus on the process of coaching, it is applicable to all curriculum models including Learning-Focused Schools, Reading Apprenticeship, and Standards Aligned System. The content of these sessions is applicable to PreK-12 teacher leaders, instructional coaches, department chairs, curriculum coordinators, and principals. Identified PIIC coaches are required to attend all sessions throughout the year while non-PIIC participants are encouraged but not required to attend all sessions throughout the year.
