12/01/2021The 6-hour course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics include • Common signs and symptoms of mental illness in this age group, including » Anxiety » Depression » Eating disorders » Attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD) • Common signs and symptoms of substance use • How to interact with a child or adolescent in crisis • How to connect the person with help • New: Expanded content on trauma, addiction and self-care and the impact of social media and bullying. Two weeks of pre~work required prior to in~person training.

12/08/2021Join us for a one-hour virtual informational session with Dr. Ruby Payne, the author of Emotional Poverty. During this one-hour we will discuss her two most recent publications Emotional Poverty in All Demographics: How to Reduce Anger, Anxiety, and Violence in the Classroom and Emotional Poverty: Safer Students and Less-Stressed Teachers. Based on the recent publications, participants should:
- Gain an understanding of origins of anger, anxiety, and avoidance
- Learn language to talk about brain regulation, integration, and emotional competence
- Receive tools to reduce anger, anxiety, and avoidance, plus promote good behavior
- Help manage the “classroom dance” between educators and students
- Identify the differences in male and female emotional processing

12/09/2021LETRS addresses four critical outcomes for effective literacy instruction: understanding the science of reading, converting research to practice, enhancing teacher effectiveness, and transforming instruction. By understanding the “why” behind science and evidence-based research, educators can effectively know how to aid students in learning to read. With Bridge to Practice activities, educators implement the knowledge gained directly into their classrooms.

Trauma Informed Educators Collaborative ~ Individual and Bundle options

12/13/2021In this collaborative, we will be focusing on the Four R’s of Trauma-Informed Care from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) as it relates to student development and school culture. Each session will offer evidence-based practices that will help you develop a deeper understanding of trauma, its impact on both educators’ and students’ learning and engagement, and strategies for avoiding re-traumatization. Additionally, we will guide participants through professional standards of care that can help to prevent burnout and assist in building better relationships with colleagues and students. Training will be given in a learning and workshopping format and geared toward School Counselors, School Psychologists, and School Resource Officers, along with any other educator wishing to learn the most influential trauma-informed practices for their district. Attendance at all four sessions is required.
Districts have the option buddle this collaborative with Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) and QPR Suicide Prevention Training for up to 6 people for an additional cost. (ACT 48 will be in addition to the 18 hours listed here) (Dates for YMHFA and QPR training TBD)
Session 1: REALIZE the impact of trauma on student learning and the impact it has on school climate
Session 2: RECOGNIZE the signs of trauma in students, families, staff members, and the community
Session 3: RESPOND by integrating evidence-based practices related to trauma into your school and district
Session 4: RESIST re-traumatization of students, families, and staff.

In collaboration with the Lycoming County United Way, this will be done through creating sustainable partnerships and educational resources through a community poverty simulation and a professional development series.
