01/11/2022LETRS addresses four critical outcomes for effective literacy instruction: understanding the science of reading, converting research to practice, enhancing teacher effectiveness, and transforming instruction. By understanding the “why” behind science and evidence-based research, educators can effectively know how to aid students in learning to read. With Bridge to Practice activities, educators implement the knowledge gained directly into their classrooms.

SAP Regional Coordination Day: Trauma Talk for Adults with Tristan Schnoke

01/12/2022Description: (Please note: descriptions of traumatic events occur throughout this presentation.) The Trauma Talk presentation uses the facilitator’s personal story to help participants feel as though they are not alone in difficult times. Teaching the average person about trauma is extremely important to gain a better awareness of what trauma is, how it can affect our life, and what we can do about our traumatic experiences. Trauma Talk for Adults is presented in a laid-back style to ensure maximum comfortability from all participants as trauma can be a difficult learning subject. Learning objectives: • Definition of trauma, triggers, trauma responses, post traumatic growth, resiliency, and “superpowers.” • Personal trauma story will help teach participants about many different types of trauma, as well as personal growth from these experiences. • Managing triggers using mindfulness, anchors, islands, grounding, and breathing • The importance of being understanding when someone around you may be triggered. • Understanding what the Flight, Fight, and Freeze responses are, why they happen, and how to handle them. • Trauma is presented in a different type of language than is normally used. This will assist in comprehension of materials.

01/25/2022Teaching Deliberate Analysis is designed to provide a close read on Text-Dependent Analysis through an instructional lens, rather than a focus on assessment. This professional development offering will take the form of a professional learning network for administrators, curriculum coordinators and teacher leaders (grades K-8) who are willing to collaborate in round table discussions and dive deeper with text-dependent analysis. Participants will gain a deep understanding of learning progressions and replacement units in order to monitor student growth and differentiate classroom instruction. It is suggested that participants previously have attended Teaching Deliberate Analysis in order to participate in A League of Learners. The training consists of two face-to-face workshops with one follow-up virtual support session provided at no additional cost. This virtual support session will be scheduled at the request of the participant. Participants must register for both face-to-face sessions to attend. Training materials are research-based and created and shared by Dr. Jeri Thompson from the Center for Assessment in collaboration with the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
