The course provides tools for officers to build positive relationships with both students and staff. 9:00 am: Eligibility Requirements for Speech & Language Impairment 9:00 am - 3:00 pm BLaST IU 17 - Canton Office School based practice is challenging especially navigating the intersection were compliance, best practice, our training and free appropriate public education intersect. This session will include a fast paced review of psychometric data related to standardized assessments (e.g., reliability, validity, sensitivity, specificity, and the purpose of the test, scoring consideration) for Speech Language Pathology and an overview of comprehensive assessment to prevent over or under identification of speech language disabilities in the school settings. In addition to standardized assessments and comprehensive evaluation, the session will include discussion of IDEA/chapter 14 and root cause analysis of high caseloads. Outcomes: Participants will: 1. State the psychometric data needed to determine if a test is a valid measure for a particular student. 2. Identify tests that have limited or poor psychometric data. 3. State 4 parts of a comprehensive school based assessment 4. Discuss 3 potential causes for high caseloads as it relates to our practice. District teams are encouraged to attend to develop a deeper understanding of plan intentions and available resources. To continue growing our coaching toolkit and coaching best-practices, participants will take their learning on the road and visit four different districts within the BLaST IU17 region. At each district, coaches will focus on one of the four elements of coaching including one-on-one and small group coaching, analyzing data, using evidenced-based literacy/instructional strategies, and strategies to promote reflective practices. Complete the entire Coaching Caravan to get the full four-quadrant experience! Participants will witness the quadrants in action, and then reflect on how these practices could be used within their own building or district. These caravans will focus on the process of coaching and is applicable to all identified PIIC coaches; however, it is also applicable to PreK-12 teacher leaders, instructional coaches, department chairs, curriculum coordinators, and principals. When registering with payment, the participant is purchasing the bundle, which consists of the four visits. Participants will take the assessments in these areas designed to fulfill the current requirements of No Child Left Behind for "highly qualified paraprofessionals." No Child Left Behind requires that all individuals entering the paraprofessional field to be Highly Qualified. To be considered Highly Qualified, individuals are required to have (1) of the following: • Have completed at least 2 years of post-secondary study • Possess an associate degree or higher • Pass a rigorous local assessment in reading, writing and mathematics.
