Volume 2 focuses specifically on oral language and vocabulary, understanding reading comprehension, text-driven comprehension instruction, and the reading-writing connection. With Bridge to Practice activities, educators implement the knowledge gained directly into their classrooms. Dates/Locations: 10/24/2023 - Canton office 12/07/2023 - Canton office 02/29/2024 - Williamsport office 03/27/2024 - Williamsport office Time: 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Cost: $20 per session Lunch WILL be provided 5:30 pm: Introduction to American Sign Language 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm This 8-week introductory course will focus on the expressive and receptive skills of ASL. Topics in the course include: basic sign vocabulary, facial expression, fingerspelling, numbers, communication tips, and the importance of gestures. After completing this course, the participant will have a better understanding of Deaf Culture. “Hands-on” work, small group activities, and games will provide confidence to use ASL with the Deaf Community. Through this course, participants will focus on utilizing the strands of Joan Sedita’s The Writing Rope to provide a framework for writing instruction, as well as gain practical strategies from The Writing Revolution to implement in classrooms immediately.
