06/13/2021 | 06/14/2021(1 event)8:30 am: Engineering by Design 8:30 am - 11:30 am ZOOM none Engineering by Design (EbD) is built on the belief that the ingenuity of children is untapped, unrealized potential that, when properly motivated, will lead to the next generation of technologists, innovators, designers, and engineers. Join this virtual training to learn how to integrate a curriculum in your content area to have your students learning concepts and principles in an authentic problem-/project-based environment. This curriculum uses all four STEM content areas, as well as English Language Arts, to help students understand the complexities of tomorrow. ACT 48: 3 Credits | 06/15/2021(2 events)8:30 am: CS First ~ ZOOM 8:30 am - 11:30 am ZOOM none CS First is Google's free, introductory computer science program for grades 4-8 (ages 9-14). This video-based curriculum teaches students foundational CS, problem-solving and collaboration skills through themes related to students’ interests. In this hands-on professional development workshop, teachers will learn how to use CS First, Google’s free ready-to-teach introductory computer science (CS) curriculum for elementary and middle school students. During the three-hour workshop, teachers will: • Review the CS First curriculum • Test drive a CS First class from a student and teacher perspective • Develop a plan of action for teaching CS First in their classrooms Most importantly, teachers will join the growing community of CS First educators from around the world. ACT 48: 3 hours 9:00 am: TDA: A League of Learners ~ SYE 2022 9:00 am - 2:00 pm Teaching Deliberate Analysis is designed to provide a close read on Text-Dependent Analysis through an instructional lens, rather than a focus on assessment. This professional development offering will take the form of a professional learning network for administrators, curriculum coordinators and teacher leaders (grades K-8) who are willing to collaborate in round table discussions and dive deeper with text-dependent analysis. Participants will gain a deep understanding of learning progressions and replacement units in order to monitor student growth and differentiate classroom instruction. It is suggested that participants previously have attended Teaching Deliberate Analysis in order to participate in A League of Learners. The training consists of two face-to-face workshops with one follow-up virtual support session provided at no additional cost. This virtual support session will be scheduled at the request of the participant. Participants must register for both face-to-face sessions to attend. Training materials are research-based and created and shared by Dr. Jeri Thompson from the Center for Assessment in collaboration with the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
