11/06/2022 | 11/07/2022(1 event)7:30 am: QBS- Recert Safety Care 7:30 am - 4:00 pm This training requires demonstration of 18 verbal and physical competencies. Participants should come prepared and willing to demonstrate mastery of each competency. Participants will recertify on verbal and physical de-escalation techniques. Various therapeutic holds will be demonstrated and practiced. They will learn to de-escalate a crisis situation and test out of core competencies. | 11/08/2022(2 events)8:30 am: Highly Qualified Paraprofessional Assessment Testing 8:30 am - 2:30 pm This workshop will provide practical training and support in the areas of reading, writing, mathematics, and confidentiality. Participants will take the assessments in these areas designed to fulfill the current requirements of No Child Left Behind for "highly qualified paraprofessionals." . To be considered Highly Qualified, individuals are required to have (1) of the following: • Have completed at least 2 years of postsecondary study • Possess an associate degree or higher • Pass a rigorous local assessment in reading, writing and mathematics Location: Williamsport IU Office 8:30 am: LETRS 3rd Edition - Volume 2 8:30 am - 3:00 pm *Completion of LETRS Volume 1 (Units 1-4) is a prerequisite for Volume 2. LETRS addresses four critical outcomes for effective literacy instruction: understanding the science of reading, converting research to practice, enhancing teacher effectiveness, and transforming instruction. Volume 2 focuses specifically on oral language and vocabulary, understanding reading comprehension, text-driven comprehension instruction, and the reading-writing connection. With Bridge to Practice activities, educators implement the knowledge gained directly into their classrooms. Dates: September 27, November 8, March 28, April 18 (must attend all sessions) Location: Canton BLaST Office (Sept & Nov) & Williamsport BLaST Office (Mar & Apr) Lunch will be provided | 11/09/2022 | 11/10/2022 | 11/11/2022(1 event)8:30 am: School Counselors Cohort 8:30 am - 2:00 pm This Professional Learning Opportunity for K-12 school counselors will occur three times a year. The cohort package is intended for the consistent attendance of a school counselor for all three sessions. The full-day professional learning topics will include student and staff mental health needs and strategies; crisis management and recovery; equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives; counselor-identified needs and PDE initiatives (social-emotional wellness, Act 158 pathways, etc.). **For a systems approach, we encourage districts to send representation from the K-12 counseling team for district-wide collaboration.
