In collaboration with the Lycoming County United Way, this will be done through creating sustainable partnerships and educational resources through a community poverty simulation and a professional development series.

Trauma Informed Educators Collaborative ~ Individual and Bundle options

11/08/2021In this collaborative, we will be focusing on the Four R’s of Trauma-Informed Care from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) as it relates to student development and school culture. Each session will offer evidence-based practices that will help you develop a deeper understanding of trauma, its impact on both educators’ and students’ learning and engagement, and strategies for avoiding re-traumatization. Additionally, we will guide participants through professional standards of care that can help to prevent burnout and assist in building better relationships with colleagues and students. Training will be given in a learning and workshopping format and geared toward School Counselors, School Psychologists, and School Resource Officers, along with any other educator wishing to learn the most influential trauma-informed practices for their district. Attendance at all four sessions is required.
Districts have the option buddle this collaborative with Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) and QPR Suicide Prevention Training for up to 6 people for an additional cost. (ACT 48 will be in addition to the 18 hours listed here) (Dates for YMHFA and QPR training TBD)
Session 1: REALIZE the impact of trauma on student learning and the impact it has on school climate
Session 2: RECOGNIZE the signs of trauma in students, families, staff members, and the community
Session 3: RESPOND by integrating evidence-based practices related to trauma into your school and district
Session 4: RESIST re-traumatization of students, families, and staff.

11/09/2021This series will explore common practices in balanced literacy and deepen the understanding of research and resources to enhance reading instruction for all students. There will be a heavy emphasis on language comprehension, phonological awareness, phonics, high frequency words, and choosing appropriate texts for all levels of readers. Educators will be revamping their toolkits through discussion, modeling, and bridge to practice opportunities. Registration closes November 3, 2021

11/17/2021The Pennsylvania Institute for Instructional Coaching (PIIC) is a state-wide system of support that enhances the work of school-based instructional coaches. School-based instructional coaches provide professional development for teachers and school leaders focused on refining classroom practices, increasing student engagement, and improving student achievement. Sessions will be designed around PIICs four elements of coaching and include strategies for one-on-one and small group coaching, analyzing data, using evidenced-based literacy/instructional strategies, and strategies to promote reflective practices. Because these sessions focus on the process of coaching, it is applicable to all curriculum models including Learning-Focused Schools, Reading Apprenticeship, and Standards Aligned System. The content of these sessions is applicable to PreK-12 teacher leaders, instructional coaches, department chairs, curriculum coordinators, and principals. Identified PIIC coaches are required to attend all sessions throughout the year while non-PIIC participants are encouraged but not required to attend all sessions throughout the year.
