We look forward to continuing the great discussions started during last year's two in-service days. As a reminder, each member district should send at least one PoC to each day. Additional team members are always welcome. This year, each day will broken into two pathways. Each pathway includes several focus areas. Pathway 1: Strategy and Planning, Program Promotion, Educational Programming, Reports and Motivating Students, eLearning Advocacy. Pathway 2: Operations, Reporting, Communication Systems, GENIUS Essentials, Curriculum Components and Navigation. You may choose to stay within a single pathway throughout the day, or go between the two. Participants should come prepared and willing to demonstrate mastery of each competency. Safety Care Training is a two-full-day training that teaches the goals of safety management, interdisciplinary treatment, creates an understanding of challenging behavior, establishing a safe environment, practicing safety habits, delivering and differential reinforcement. Safety care training teaches incident minimization, de-escalation procedures, incident management (physical safety techniques) and post incident procedures. This is a physical training. Participants should dress appropriately in loose, comfortable clothing. Please refrain from wearing flip flops, sandals, clogs, or open toed shoes. Athletic shoes such as sneakers are most appropriate. The training will require participants to shuffle backward, twist and turn and transition from a standing to floor position. Participants should only register if they are willing and able to demonstrate the physical competencies. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the facilitator. This training is not open to parents, outside agencies, or districts not within IU 17. School districts served by BLaST IU 17 will not be invoiced. School-based instructional coaches provide professional development for teachers and school leaders focused on refining classroom practices, increasing student engagement, and improving student achievement. Sessions will be designed around PIICs four elements of coaching and include strategies for one-on-one and small group coaching, analyzing data, using evidenced-based literacy/instructional strategies, and strategies to promote reflective practices. Because these sessions focus on the process of coaching, it is applicable to all curriculum models including Learning-Focused Schools, Reading Apprenticeship, and Standards Aligned System. The content of these sessions is applicable to PreK-12 teacher leaders, instructional coaches, department chairs, curriculum coordinators, and principals. Identified PIIC coaches are required to attend all sessions throughout the year while non-PIIC participants are encouraged but not required to attend all sessions throughout the year. | 11/13/2015(3 events)8:30 am: Quality Behavior Solutions - Safety Care Advance Skills High Severity Behavior 1 & 2 8:30 am - 3:30 pm 33 Springbrook Drive Canton, PA 17724 USA 570-673-6001 High Severity Behavior 1 The High Severity Behavior modules are designed for organizations that support individuals with the potential for extremely dangerous behavior. It includes strategies for developing safety plans,advanced physical safety procedures (releasing from rear chokes and hair pulls) team safety strategies, and safe floor hold procedures. Participants will learn advanced verbal and physical de-escalation techniques including the rear hair pull release, rear choke release, head lock release, triad and supine. Various therapeutic holds will be demonstrated and practiced. Participants will learn to de-escalate a crisis situation and check out of core competencies. High Severity Behavior 2 The second High Severity Behavior module provides training in physical management of dangerous objects, prevention and management of fights, and procedures for prevention and management of dangerous behavior in vehicles and on trips. 8:30 am: Strategies for General Education Staff Working with Students with ASD 8:30 am - 3:30 pm 2400 Reach Road Williamsport, PA 17701 USA 570-323-8561 If you’ve seen one child with autism, you’ve seen one child . . However, many students with ASD can be successful in the general education setting with appropriate instruction and supports. To register for this event please visit www.elrnr.org. | 11/18/2015 | 11/19/2015 | 11/20/2015(3 events)8:30 am: School Wide Information Systems - SWIS Training 8:30 am - 11:30 am 2400 Reach Road Williamsport, PA 17701 USA 570-323-8561 This is a requested training for schools purchasing the SWIS system and implementing School Wide Positive Behavior Support. The training details getting to know SWIS, using SWIS data for discipline decisions, SWIS data entry and reporting schedule, common navigation, logging into and out of SWIS, generating reports, tools, building fluency, and annual account activities. 11:30 am: Check In Check Out (CICO) School-Wide Information System Data Entry Training 11:30 am - 1:30 pm 2400 Reach Road Williamsport, PA 17701 USA 570-323-8561 CICO-SWIS provides school staff with an online space to enter CICO point card data easily and efficiently online. Data are summarized across five reports allowing teams to: 1. Monitor individual student progress: Three reports give teams a way to see 1. If each student is meeting his/her goals each day. 2. How each student is doing at each check-in period. 3. The overall impact of plan changes made throughout the course of the intervention. 4. The impact of the intervention on each student’s office discipline referral count. 2. Review the overall integrity and fidelity of the program: Targeted (Tier II) and Universal (Tier I) teams can review two graphs in CICO-SWIS to see: 1. 11/22/2015 | 11/23/2015 | 11/24/2015(1 event)8:00 am: Hitting the Big Biology Ideas (formerly the "Biotech Workshop") 8:00 am - 3:00 pm Lycoming College - HEIM Science Building Williamsport, 17701 Update and strengthen your biology background and enrich your teaching by attending the annual biology teaching professional development workshop at Lycoming College this fall. Participants will rotate through 6 sessions which hit big ideas in biology which are relevant to any entry level biology courses (including Keystone Biology/Reagents Biology) and AP biology. Teachers will use Wisconsin Fast Plants to teach students about natural selection using real organisms, learn about habitat, niche, adaptation and skull anatomy using Boneclone skulls, use Nerf Guns to model ATP function, play with models to learn about enzyme function and protein structure, use gene databases to identify genes and predict the phenotypes of bacteria AND work with two of Pennsylvania’s state environmental educators to use watersheds to teach ecology concepts. Participants will take home 6 Act 48 credits, a mini greenhouse with Fastplant seeds, lesson plans and free resources.
