10/12/2017Unlock The Thinking Power of Interactive Read Aloud! Interactive Read Aloud is the foundation of balanced and authentic literacy instruction. During IRA, teachers instruct and support students as they take on systems of strategic actions, building deep thinking and rich conversations about texts. This training is based on a Vygotskian Social-Constructivist theory of learning. Session participants will learn how to unlock the thinking power of IRA through an engaging and hands-on exploration of the heart of the literacy block. Presenter Bio: Lisa Patrick works as a Literacy Collaborative and Reading Recovery Trainer at The Ohio State University. An avid reader, she earned her PhD in Literature for Children and Young Adults at The Ohio State University. Lisa serves on the U.S. Hans Christian Andersen Award committee, as well as the NCTE Award for Excellence in Poetry for Children committee. She presents on a range of literacy topics at national conferences and at school districts throughout the Midwest. An advocate for students’ literacy rights, Lisa can usually be found putting books in the hands of children and teachers. Please contact Laura Klym lklym@iu17.org with any questions.
