Safety care training teaches incident minimization, de-escalation procedures, incident management (physical safety techniques) and post incident procedures. This is a physical training. Participants should dress appropriately in loose, comfortable clothing. Please refrain from wearing flip flops, sandals, clogs, or open toed shoes. Athletic shoes such as sneakers are most appropriate. The training will require participants to shuffle backward, twist and turn and transition from a standing to floor position. The initial day will be organized to explore the shift from RTII to MTSS in Pennsylvania and to define best practices related to the nine components of the framework. Each of the subsequent focus days will dig deeper into one of the nine components of the Pennsylvania MTSS framework. A continuum of tools and resources will be reviewed. Opportunities for team discussions and district networking will be embedded throughout the training series. Participants may choose to attend one or all of the training opportunities.

Since these humble beginnings, ALICE continues to be the leading active shooter response program in the US. The purpose of ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) training is to prepare individuals to handle the threat of an Active Shooter. ALICE teaches individuals to participate in their own survival, while leading others to safety. Though no one can guarantee success in this type of situation, this new set of skills will greatly increase the odds of survival should anyone face this form of disaster. The knowledge and skills that are embedded in this program correlate to the domains of "Strategic and Cultural Leadership" and "Leadership for Learning" which are included in the recently adopted Principal Effectiveness Framework for Pennsylvania school leaders (PDE, 2014). The major focus of this program is on instructional leadership for student achievement, anchored on the research-based premise that if school and system leaders focus their sustained efforts on ensuring effective instruction in every classroom, every day, then increased student learning and achievement will occur. Also, because of the complexity involved in the leadership role of school leaders, the improvement of instruction and student learning can best be accomplished through the implementation of professional learning communities (DuFour and Marzano, 2011). As per Act 45 approval, the program includes scheduled sessions, online interaction, and job embedded assignments.
