We will explore additional program features and provide participants with tips for effective implementation. Registration open until 2/8/2021 Activity Subject Area: Teaching and Learning Professional Development 3:30 pm: Introduction to Restorative Practices & Using Circles Effectively 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm ZOOM none You and your staff will learn a range of strategies that can be used every day. Attendees will learn how to set high expectations while being supportive. Opportunities be provided to practice how to provide direct feedback and how to ask questions that foster accountability. The most effective methods to resolve common conflicts will be presented. We devote the second day entirely to teaching attendees to facilitate restorative circles. Circles are an essential process for building social capital, resolving social problems and responding when harm occurs. Circles create a positive learning environment. Attendees will learn by participating in circles with other attendees and taking turns learning how to facilitate a circle. By the end of the day, staff will be prepared to return to their setting and run their first circle! This event is held on the second and fourth Thursday from February 11, 2021 through May27, 2021. 02/14/2021 | 02/15/2021 | 02/16/2021(1 event)9:00 am: CS First ~ ZOOM 9:00 am - 2:00 pm ZOOM none CS First is Google's free, introductory computer science program for grades 4-8 (ages 9-14). This video-based curriculum teaches students foundational CS, problem-solving and collaboration skills through themes related to students’ interests. In this hands-on professional development workshop, teachers will learn how to use CS First, Google’s free ready-to-teach introductory computer science (CS) curriculum for elementary and middle school students. This collaborative will share ideas (new and old), develop course work and support one another to lead the way for Computer Science in our region. This group will focus on local and statewide Computer Science initiatives and how to instill the values of the critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity in 21st Century Learners. We will look at the class data provided by GMM and discuss what constitutes acceptable data and what appropriate actions can be taken to address unacceptable metrics.
