05/03/2021Workshop will provide practical training and support in the areas of reading, writing, mathematics, and confidentiality. Participants will take the assessments in these areas designed to fulfill the current requirements of No Child Left Behind for "highly qualified paraprofessionals." No Child Left Behind requires that all individuals entering the paraprofessional field to be Highly Qualified. To be considered Highly Qualified, individuals are required to have (1) of the following: • Have completed at least 2 years of post-secondary study • Possess an associate degree or higher • Pass a rigorous local assessment in reading, writing and mathematics. Your materials, certificate and Para hour processing is included in the cost. For questions, please contact registrar@iu17.org.

05/10/2021Do you currently work with students diagnosed with Autism? Are you looking for strategies to promote learning and areas of positive growth? Are you looking to build a connection with other teachers and educators? Check-in with the BLaST Intermediate Unit 17 for my ‘Autism Connection Community.’ Every month, I will share a specific skill area that educators should practice with themselves and their students to develop a better understanding and increase a positive classroom culture and environment. These skills are recyclable and should be used throughout the school year. The instruction and strategies may vary from grade to grade and depending on each student since “no two students are the same.” The skills lab will run asynchronously and virtually so that educators can dive in when ready. Content will drop each month and reflection exercises will be embedded throughout each skill section. There will be touch points along the way with Jim Rinehimer, who will help bridge these skills into practice.

05/13/2021The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) is pleased to announce a two-hour virtual training session (Act 48) designed to assist districts in meeting evidence requirements for the Career Readiness Indicator and the Industry-Based Learning Indicator. Educators will have the opportunity to take a deep dive into existing free classroom resources, SAS, and the Career Ready PA Coalition websites to support career readiness and work-based learning. Your regional Career Ready PA liaison will guide you through the process, as well as provide technical support. The goal of this training is to further develop a repository of resources to support the Career Readiness and Industry-Based Learning Indicators with the support of the Career Ready PA Regional Liaison in each of the 10 Career Ready PA Regions. 05/13/2021You and your staff will learn a range of strategies that can be used every day. Attendees will learn how to set high expectations while being supportive. Opportunities be provided to practice how to provide direct feedback and how to ask questions that foster accountability. The most effective methods to resolve common conflicts will be presented. We devote the second day entirely to teaching attendees to facilitate restorative circles. Circles are an essential process for building social capital, resolving social problems and responding when harm occurs. Circles create a positive learning environment. Attendees will learn by participating in circles with other attendees and taking turns learning how to facilitate a circle. By the end of the day, staff will be prepared to return to their setting and run their first circle! This event is held on the second and fourth Thursday from February 11, 2021 through May27, 2021. Registration open until 2/4/2021.
