SAP Regional Coordination Day: Trauma Talk for Adults with Tristan Schnoke
Description: (Please note: descriptions of traumatic events occur throughout this presentation.) The Trauma Talk presentation uses the facilitator’s personal story to help participants feel as though they are not alone in difficult times. Teaching the average person about trauma is extremely important to gain a better awareness of what trauma is, how it can affect our life, and what we can do about our traumatic experiences. Trauma Talk for Adults is presented in a laid-back style to ensure maximum comfortability from all participants as trauma can be a difficult learning subject. Learning objectives: • Definition of trauma, triggers, trauma responses, post traumatic growth, resiliency, and “superpowers.” • Personal trauma story will help teach participants about many different types of trauma, as well as personal growth from these experiences. • Managing triggers using mindfulness, anchors, islands, grounding, and breathing • The importance of being understanding when someone around you may be triggered. • Understanding what the Flight, Fight, and Freeze responses are, why they happen, and how to handle them. • Trauma is presented in a different type of language than is normally used. This will assist in comprehension of materials.
